how groovelounge came to be...

I've always wanted to control the music everywhere I am.  Music is more than background, it can set the mood and evoke emotion.  It always bothered me when I was in a bar or restaurant and the music didn't fit the atmosphere.  Anyhoo, I digress.A new bar opened in downtown Detroit and some friends asked me to go check it out.  I went down and checked it out and it was pretty amazing.  But of course after being there for a bit, the music started to catch my attention.  I like some songs but others didn't fit the mood.  So I asked a friend of mine who was working there as a bartender what the deal was with the music.  She took me to meet one of the owners and she told him I had pretty good taste in music and asked if I could play the music for the rest of the night.  They walked me over to an iMac in the back of the room and I jumped on and within a half hour or so a dance party broke out.  he owner thanked me and told me anytime I wanted to do that again, to feel free. So, anytime I walked in the bar the owner would look at me and motion towards the iMac.  After a few weeks I asked them to give me their slowest night and to let me try to turn it into something.  groovelounge launched on April 6, 2006 and ran every week for almost 4 years up until I got laid off from my former job at Capitol Records and relocated to New York.  It ran in three different venues and has some of the most loyal fans anywhere.  I got to do groovelounge events and open for concerts for artists such as Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Van Hunt and Nikka Costa.  I also got to be part of the inaugural launch of Marble Lounge at the DIA.
